About This Blog...

Starting this blog made me cast my mind back to when I first started preaching. My very first sermon was entitled 'What do you get when you squeeze a Christian?' where I started by comparing Christians to oranges.....yes, I know, it's amazing I'm still preaching!....but nevertheless I thought I would stick with the same theme for this blog, and just hope it goes a little better than my first sermon ever did!

Here you'll find some of the things I never got to say during a Sunday sermon, thoughts on things happening in the church and beyond...oh and maybe the odd insight into my mind and it's workings...odd probably being the right word!

FAVOUR
December 22, 2011

FAVOUR.

Want God’s favour? Well the more favour you receive, chances are the more faith it will actually require. God’s favour does bring abundant blessing into our lives at times, but often we assume that will mean peace, joy, love and happiness......basically life will be more comfortable for us....right?

Well....often.....no! Favour, is often a disruptive force in our lives. Example......Mary......remember what the angel said?....Greeting you who are highly favoured......yet favour for Mary meant public shame and humiliation, a long journey (while pregnant) on the back of a donkey and then giving birth in a cave!....want to be blessed and highly favoured now?!

Now I’m not saying all this to depress you....but more than anything, to simply prepare you.

See favour isn’t always synonymous with a successive series of blessed events, and it doesn’t always lead to a peaceful and easy life. Favour will actually require you to exert more faith than ever. Why? because it’s going to take you places you’ve never been before, and also require you to do things you’ve never done before. Things that you cannot do, apart from Jesus.

When you ask God for favour, He answers with opportunity. And as you seize the opportunity, He empowers you with His presence and equips you with His power.....just like Mary.
